The rule that matters
The official text says words stack and the chaos keeps growing. Guides agree that a new word does not wipe the previous effect. A short countdown before the next Writer is the window to leave whatever is still running.
A response order
- Read the new banner before you admire the effect.
- Move for that banner if it will hit you first. Lava means get off the ground. A wave means height you can reach now, not a prettier tower across the island.
- Check what was already active. Meteor is reported to last the match, so the sky stays dangerous after you climb. Zombies are reported the same way.
- If you are the Writer, do not add a hazard you cannot leave. Match-long words are the expensive mistakes.
Items that match a problem
Use the five-slot loadout as answers, not as a rarity display. Portable Ladder and Swim Ring answer water. Umbrella answers falling objects. Popsicle, Water Balloon and Fire Extinguisher answer fire. Hot Cocoa and Medkit answer cold. Garlic answers undead and hunters. Meat Bone, Inflatable Decoy and Smoke Bomb buy seconds against creatures. Force Field is 20 seconds of nothing hurting you. Pocket Watch puts you back five seconds.
If you die, footage shows a spectator view. Use it to see which older effect is still eliminating people. A Revive button has been reported after death; its price was not readable.
What not to trust
There is no official best-word ranking, and the 7 Nov update said overpowered and weak words were changed. Community names from a comment thread are not effects. Test a candidate once, see if the Index unlocks, and keep the warning you actually saw.
